Who will tell the African story?

“Until the Story of the hunt is told by the Lion, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter”.— African Proverb

I have chosen to quote this proverb on the account of its unquestioned pedagogical value and because of its congruousness with the theme of this piece.

Each time we are glued to our television screen
perhaps feasting our eyes on a movie on Netflix that romanticizes the anachronistic Greco-Roman snake and unicorn fabled characters or whenever we use their horoscopic narratives to predetermine the essence of our godlike beings, are we confronted with the profound question of who is going to resuscitate the withering history of Africa back to life?.

History could be best juxtaposed to an heirloom
which should be passed on from one generation to another. When the history of a people is distorted,it could have permanent deleterious consequences on their moral and psychological landscapes which could ultimately lead to the complete annihilation of their cultures ,ethics and values.

The conquest of Africa in its wake leaves behind
here and there tinctures of decay on our values and ethics. Our history has been adulterated both by the presence of Europeans chattel slave merchants and the Arabian extreme radical usurpers, through dint of great arrays of cannon and bayonets our history slowly and insidiously gets garbled.

The European Conquistadors in their obscurantist traditions try to back up their myopic sentiments and justify their unprecedented barbarities against blacks by casting aspersions on our history and besmirching the melanin people that our ancestors are the dregs of humanity and our ancestral origin is neanderthal. That is a totally ludicrous and balderdash narratives which is completely incongruous with black history. The word Knight originates from the word night because the knights of medieval Europe are as black as night as our ancestors are Kings and Queens!.

There are many laudable achievements by black people from time immemorial which negate and contradict the jaundiced, shallow and wishy-washy narratives of the colonial bigots.

Timbuktu(today Mali) in Africa is famous for its Sankore university, unarguably the first university in the world dated back to the 13th century, its grandiose facade and quaintly compartmentalized interior medieval mosque Djinguereber whose architectural artistry still marvels the world till date and its ruler Mansa Musa, well known for his diplomatic adroitness, unequaled affluence and political acumen.

The ancient Egypt is undisputedly the cradle of civilization. There are gazillions of archeological
facts and biblical evidences that lend credence to
this claim. Her nonpareil monumental grandeurs, resplendent aesthetics, stylized hieroglyphics, mummified bodies etc which hitherto still remain cynosures for tourists and scientists across the world thereby unveiling the boundless ingenuity of the black race and our long history of civilization.

Her superlative opulence and unrivaled reputation in diversified fields of knowledge ((Mathematics, science and engineering, medicine , fine-art to mention a few) attracted people from all walks of life. The likes of Aristotle, Socrates, Plato and Alexander the Great in their insatiable quest for knowledge all pilgrimaged to Africa to benefit from the ocean of knowledge which abounds here. It is imperative therefore to say that Africa history is inextricably intertwined with civilization and if not for the significant contributions of Africa to the history of mankind;humanity would still be wallowing and floundering in the morass of ignorance.

Today in Africa, the juggernaut of western civilization has subsumed us.Philistinism to our culture has become our supreme characteristic. We promote and idolize outlandish insipid cultures that are completely inimical to the ethos of our society whilst we loathe ours and watch it ebb away gradually into extinction.

By whatever means it takes; we have to pull off this livery sewn for us by our oppressors which makes us look like their obscene caricature. We need to cauterize down to the raw flesh this ulcer that is contaminating the water of our domestic lives through root renaissance lest we become like the proverbial river that forgets its source and eventually dry up.

We have to educate ourselves about Africa, the science and the art and never should rely on our educational system which is built to pay tribute to our oppressors as our education is an outmoded routinized Europeans curriculum designed only to continually keep us tethered, gaslighted and hoodwinked incorporated with syllabus centered on whitewashing us psychologically into believing that white is angel and black is devil.
